“Not for luxury or romance but perfect for a girlie shopping trip!”

Excellent location, 2 blocks from Macys and the Empire state building and within walking distance of the other shops on 5th avenue.
The one bad thing I have to say is that the radiator in our room was very load on the first night, very clunky and a lot of running water noise and it did keep me awake. In the morning I had a look at it and turned it off and it was fine after that and the room was not too cold either, so only a small issue. I also overheard another guset complaining about this in reception - but as i say with the radistor off it was not an issue.
I don't give many hotels 5*, but for what I was looking for on this trip it ticked all the boxes, so I can't fault it.
“completely different”

This hotel was completely different but it did the trick. Our room was a quadruple. It was at the rear and therefore didn't have a view, but who cares? When you come in after a hard day sight-seeing, all you want to do is sleep....The room was clean, had a great shower, towels were changed every day and the beds made. The hotel is only a few yards from the nearest metro subway, but you can walk up to Times square in about 15 mins. Breakfast places were very close and very reasonable! The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. I would certainly use this hotel again on my next trip.
“Unbeatable!”

The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful, we had a few laughs with them and they obliged with the loan of a wine opener, which won me over LoL!
The location is unbeatable with the subway a few munutes away and the ESB and Macy's literally 5 mins walk..
We used the little cafe attached to the hotel everyday for breakfast and coffee and they were great, very helpful and friendly.
Next time I visit New York I will definitely stay here again.

“Dirty rooms”

Our room was not clean, we had dirty sheets and hair on our pillows. We requested new bedding and were given 3 pillow cases from a cupboard. No apology from staff, and no one seemed particularly bothered. The reception staff appeared mostly bored, and while they would answer queries, it wasn't exactly with any enthusiasm.
Would not stay here again or recommend.
“Worst hotel experience we've ever had!”

We were able to check into this hotel early so we sat our things down in our room, and proceeded to sight see and shop in the city. When we returned later that evening, we found our hotel had been broken into and all of our valuables were stolen. There was no sign of forced entry; however, after notifying the hotel staff, they practically accused us of staging the incident. We called the police, filed a report and asked the Hotel Grand Union for a refund. We have yet to receive that refund. They were extremely defensive and never even once apologized for what happened to us. Luckily, the NYPD had compassion on us and gave us a ride to another hotel.
