If your looking for a great location this is the place to go. The hotel is just off times square. If your looking for value and comfort this is the place to stay. This was my second time and I had recommended it to my friends who were not disappointed. I will always return to this hotel on any future visits to New York. The restaurant on the ground floor is great value and and the food is great.

    “GREAT LOCATION!!!”

The hotel was located in the heart of Times Square, within walking distance to everything, it was clean, the staff was nice, we had no problems and no complains, we felt safe walking around past midnight and everything was literally steps away, we saw so much and did so many activities, the hop on/hop off bus was barely a minute away and we took advantage of every moment we had there...Not the most luxurious hotel there, but when your intentions are to hit the road early and go back very late, then it was just perfect!!!

    “Wonderful Oasis”

My traveling companion had stayed at The Edison a few times. So for this trip I took her at her word that this was the place to stay. She was so right. The price was right. The room, though a bit worn, was large and clean. The hotel is used mostly by Europeans, but we felt right at home. It the heart of the theater district we were a very short walk from most shows, which was are main reason for being there. There are places to eat right on the premises. The Edison Cafe, great for breakfast and lunch. And the Sophia. As for The Sophia, the food was fine, but there are many other more friendly places to eat. Also The Rum bar was a wonderful place to relax and listen to the lounge singer. We had two double beds and were quite comfortable. Don't expect fancy furnishings or a large bathroom. And things look a bit worn. But for the money.... and location, this a clean wonderful place.

“Great location, but poor in every other way”

There are lots of hotels in and around Times Square - and as a frequent visitor to NY, I've stayed in many of them. Back in the 90s, the Edison was well managed and a great place to stay, so when I saw a low priced special for last weekend, I grabbed it. I will not make the same mistake again. Besides surly staff, absent luggage check staff, and a "no we can't" attitude, the bathroom was 92 degrees, and the room was in the mid 80s (it was about 35 outside). When I checked in, I asked for a room not near the elevators - and I was assured this it was not. In reality, it was directly across from the elevators - there wasn't a room closer! The room wasn't ready, but the charged to check luggage until it was ready. No coffee maker, no free wifi (many hotels in Times Square offer these plus free cont. bkfst).

    “close the place!”

As usual I should have taken the advice of other trip advisors, this hotel should be avoided, yes the location is good, however its not just the fact that the rooms are old fashioned and dated and horrible its the staff who are the real killers..... I have honestly never come across ruder people in my life - I stayed at Fitzpatricks before, this year i was been more price concious as a was doing a few cities...on checking in I asked the receptionist if everything was closed for thanksgiving, i was told by her "if I wanted that kind of information i should ask the porter, I'm not paid to deal with tourist queries!"Guests are "hassled" to and from the elavtor for ID , even if you pop down to the deli for a bottle of water. The restaurant is the nearest thing to a factory canteen that I've come across - staff are almost as rude as reception - food was thrown at you, I would suggest that anyone traveling to this hotel should re-consider you save nothing in the long run.....
